Le Ngu, PhD - Psychologist | le@insightslc.com
*services available in Cantonese

I specialize in working with individuals who have a history of trauma and abuse, depression, anxiety, family conflict, immigration adjustment issues, and/or autism spectrum disorder. I work from an interpersonal perspective and believe that a trusting therapeutic alliance is vital to success in therapy. I am also EMDR trained and have found success in integrating these skills in the therapeutic process.

I received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Utah and completed my doctoral internship at Boston University’s Center for Multicultural Training in Psychology. After completing my doctorate, I obtained a post-doctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School’s McLean Hospital where I helped children diagnosed with autism spectrum learn to cope with their struggles.

In addition to clinical practice, I was a professor of psychology at Pine Manor College, a liberal arts college for women in Boston, Massachusetts from 2005-2008. I now am a full-time clinician helping adults, children, adolescents, and families find peace and hope within themselves.

Laken Shirey, MEd - Clinical Mental Health Clinician | laken@insightslc.com

I studied Counseling Psychology and have worked with clients for approximately eight years in college counseling centers and private practice. I specialize in adjustment to life transitions, interpersonal relationships, emotional eating, and trauma. I also enjoy working with partners in nontraditional romantic relationships, including LGBTQ+ and polyamory. I am trained in assessment, including readiness for bariatric surgery, IQ and learning disabilities, career exploration, and personality assessment.  My work with clients combines elements of storytelling, support, interpersonal processing, and eye movement desensitization reprocessing (EMDR). I believe that change comes from recognizing and challenging old, unhelpful beliefs and coping strategies, and exploring new ways of interacting with the people and world around us. I value authenticity and vulnerability in the counseling relationship, and I seek to create a space that feels safe for clients to experience the full range of their emotions. I'm inspired by my clients' ability to heal and grow into their most hopeful, empowered, and authentic selves.

I have experience working with children, adolescents, and adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, trauma histories, grief, family stressors, adjustment to difficult life situations, as well as other issues. I place emphasis on providing a safe, non-judgemental space which will foster insight into the patterns that leave you feeling stuck and that underlie symptoms. I draw from psychodynamic and attachment perspectives and strive to foster the type of therapeutic relationship that helps you heal and achieve the change that you are looking for.

I received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University and my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania. I am fluent in Spanish and can work with children and adults in Spanish if preferred.

Wing Ng, MS

Wing Ng, MS - Master of Science in Counseling | wing@insightslc.com
*services available in Cantonese

I have experience working with adults managing concerns related to depression, anxiety, social anxiety, relationship concerns, identity development, and adjustment issues. I work from a narrative and multicultural therapy perspective where I establish a non-pathologizing and collaborative relationship to manage and address ongoing concerns. As a part of my work with clients, I encourage discussions around relevant cultural identities, such as race, gender, sexuality, religion, family of origin, or ability status, to have a more holistic and intersectional understanding of my client's stories and experiences. I hope to co-develop new experiences that encourage positive change and healing in collaboration with clients.

I received a Master’s degree in Counseling at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and am currently completing my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Utah. At Insight Psychological Services, I am working as a master's level clinician under the supervision of Dr. Le Ngu.  I am also providing counseling at the University of Utah as a part of my educational training.

Sean Crotty, MPH - PsyD in progress | sean@insightslc.com
*services available in Khmer

I am a doctoral student of both psychotherapy and Jungian psychoanalysis. I have experience working with clients struggling with relationship problems, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, issues pertaining to sexual orientation and identity, grief and loss, child sexual assault, addiction, and early relational trauma. Additionally, I aim to address deep unconscious patterns of behavior, spiritual questioning, midlife, and later adult life transitions.

I operate with the premise that much of life's suffering contains within itself an inner meaning, waiting to be discovered, seen, and realized. And where one suffers is often the place that contains a seed of new development and personal growth.

I aim to provide a safe and comfortable space to explore unconscious motivations that influence conscious behavior. I also encourage a holistic and non-pathologizing approach to mental health treatment. I am interested in using depth methods to reconnect the soul and spirit. My master's was in Public Health in which I examined indigenous medicine and altered states of consciousness to treat anxiety and depression on Native American reservations. My dissertation focuses on the intersection of indigenous wisdom and modern psychotherapy. I am working as a doctoral-level clinician under the supervision of Dr. Le Ngu. I also work for the Multidisciplinary Association of Psychedelic Studies (MAPS) as a contributing author.
